The Joystick Shield kit contains all the necessary parts to use an Arduino as a control similar to those of the video game console. The shield is placed on top of the Arduino board and makes it a simple control. It has a joystick of two axes and five buttons, 4 type push button and the joystick selection button, which gives an Arduino card the functionality of the old Nintendo controllers.
The shield gives you full access to all the digital and analogue ports that an UNO possibly provide. Additionally the shield provide correctly arranged breakouts for some common modules used in projects. These are the Bluetooth, nRF24L01, I2C and the 5110 LCD.
There are four buttons on this shield. D3 should be connected to digital pin 3; D4 to digital pin4; D5 to digital pin 5; D6 to digital pin 6. The other small button is reset button. Connect X-axis to pin A0, Y-axis to pin A1, power supply to 5V and ground to GND. Generally, PS2 joystick can be used for controlling small vehicles. It is comprised of two 10K potentiometers and a button switch. The five ports are VCC, X, Button, Y and GND.
